Leederville Home Extension

This home renovation in Leederville was designed to enhance functionality and liveability in a compact inner-city home, while respecting the unique architectural features already in place.

The scope involved the addition of a new alfresco area, an extension to accommodate a combined laundry and second bathroom, upgrades to the stairway leading to the loft, and significant modifications to windows and door openings to improve light and flow throughout the living zones. A mobile island breakfast bar was also introduced, offering flexibility within the existing kitchen layout.

Structural changes included forming a new concrete slab and adjusting several brick walls to support new openings. Custom steel posts and beams were installed to support the new alfresco roof, and a raked ceiling design brings openness and natural light into the new spaces. Two Velux skylights further enhance this, creating a more comfortable year-round environment.

Internally, the staircase was rebuilt using Jarrah treads and a classic-profile black balustrade. The laundry and bathroom feature detailed cabinetry, custom tapware in satin brass, a freestanding clawfoot bath, and a butler’s sink—balancing heritage charm with modern performance.

Externally, new aluminium glazing in a dark finish, solid timber door upgrades, and a subtle render treatment unify the additions with the original home. While the updates are extensive, the end result is cohesive and understated, with every detail considered to complement the home’s existing character.
