Perth Housing Awards: Why they are more important than you thought.

A builder’s success at the building industry awards, or more accurately the consistency of their success, is a very reliable way for you to determine the genuine credibility of a builder. We explain why below.

The Master Builders Association (MBA) and the Housing Industry Association (HIA) are the two industry organisations which govern the Australian building industry. Every year each association puts a call out to its 40,000 members to submit projects for judging in the industry awards. Prizes are awarded across a range of industry sector and price categories.

Entries are peer-judged by building industry professionals sought from all sectors, and teams of judges personally attend and inspect every project and score it based on the set criteria, including quality of workmanship, value for money, design efficiency, design appearance and originality, and new technology and innovation.

All companies whether large or small, boutique or volume driven, are assessed on the same criteria and must demonstrate that they can provide a high-quality project at a market competitive contract price. Large volume building companies with their 100+ starts per year are pitted against boutique builders who may only build a handful. Despite the large number of entries the judges eventually reduce the field to a selection of three to four finalists.

To be announced a category winner at the Housing Excellence Awards is an enormous honour and this is particularly so for the smaller building companies who do not have a large quantity of projects to submit compared to their competition.

To win an award at any time is an enormous accomplishment for a building company, however to win consistently is evidence of a quality standard that is ingrained in a company’s philosophy and approach to all its projects, all of the time.

In the alterations and additions sector, Addstyle Master Builder’s consistency at these awards events is unparalleled and that is despite the relatively small number of entries submitted each year. Between the MBA and HIA, Addstyle has been category winners for its home renovations and extensions every year since first entered, some 26 years ago. Addstyle has also shared its wins across the full spectre of price categories, from projects under $150,000 to those over $1 million, proving you can indeed afford quality despite your budget.

When selecting your new home or home improvement builder be sure to research carefully and a good place to start is to look at the consistency of company’s success at the MBA and HIA housing excellence awards. You can see a full list of entrants and winners of the 2016 MBA Housing Excellence Awards in the publication Winning Homes, available at selected newsagents now.
